Open Stage Choreographic Showcase

The Open Stage Choreographic Showcase of the Portugal Dance Competition will be one of the most engaging and inclusive initiatives of the event, providing a platform for dance groups, academies, and schools from the city, across the country, and also from abroad to present their talent to the public in an alternative outdoor setting. This stage will complement the competitive performances held at the Cine Teatro de Pombal, creating a more accessible and wide-reaching environment for celebrating the art of dance.

The Open Stage will be located in the historic area of the city, at Praça Marquês de Pombal, formerly known as Praça do Comércio. For centuries, this space served as the social, economic, and administrative heart of the old town of Pombal. Dominated by the imposing Church of São Martinho, associated with the peace promoted by Queen Saint Isabel, the square gained a new layout with the construction of the Granary and the Prison, ordered by the Marquis of Pombal, on the site where the pillory once stood.

Taking part in the Open Stage Choreographic Showcase will be an enriching experience for dancers and choreographers, allowing them to connect with diverse audiences, promote their work, and experience the dynamic and inspiring atmosphere of the Portugal Dance Competition. Moreover, this initiative offers an excellent opportunity for cultural exchange and learning, benefiting both the artists and the local community.

The Open Stage Choreographic Showcase reinforces the commitment of the Portugal Dance Competition to the democratization of art and to promoting dance as a universal cultural expression, transforming the city into a true stage for artistic celebration.
